Day 2 - Calligraphy and Bead Rolling

So, last night was great!  I spent a few hours getting to know Shelley better and immediately came to the conclusion that I love her!  We seemed to connect very easily and I am quite comfortable around her.  I see a lasting friendship and I am so excited about that.  Her husband, Corrigan is super cool as well.  I love their heart for ministry and the mindset they have for it.  They are so relational.  And their kids are like over the top cool as well!   This is Ember - she just turned 3 and she's a riot! So very cute!
This was taken this morning - she and Jackson came to visit me in my room before work began.
All of the Artisans arrive at work at 8 am.  It's so amazing to watch them - they just fall into their routine.  Everyone has a job and they all get busy.

Shelley picked out 5 artisans to work with me today.  She wants to begin a line of greeting cards for her Boutique and wanted some of them to be able to write nicely in them.  So - we had a little Calligraphy class!  I was a bit nervous at first simply because I have never worked with a translator - but we had fun!  They picked up on everything immediately and worked all morning.

They were awesome!

While I was teaching Calligraphy, a group were unpacking boxes that came in on the ship yesterday!  I was so excited to discover that some of them were ours.  The timing was perfect!  God is so good!

They spent the entire morning separating them by size, color, etc.  They were spread out all over the floor and furniture.  I let them know that this is what my house looks like before I send them!

When the artisans were finishing up their practicing - two of them wrote me a sweet note.

"Happy Best day for that you come in ApParent Project Miss Cami"
Totally made my day!

Cutting the cereal boxes into strips for the beads.  They can get about 50 beads from one box.

 Covering them with a varnish.

The artisans pulled me in and let me try rolling the beads.  It's hard!  By the time I finished these my fingers were cramped and sore.  I was told "Nice job for my first try" but these didn't make it through quality control.  Everyone laughed at me - including me!  It was great fun but I have an even greater respect for what they do.

These were the ones they were working on!  Much better - and much, much faster!

Rolling
They cover them with glue, let them dry and then put a varnish over them.
These are the ones that were varnished today.

Aren't these beautiful?  These are the new beads made from the clay here in Haiti.  I'll have photos of what they are doing with them later.  AWESOME!!!

I finished off my afternoon working on new signs for the boutique.  So honored to help in this way!

So far, day 2 is a huge success!  I love it here.  Until next time.......

Wow, what a ministry! I used to do calligraphy and tried making paper beads a long time ago. Their beads are just beautiful!! I pray that they will be able to sell their arts and get money and self esteem. Praise the Lord for those who have been instrumental in helping them with this project!!!
