The Christmas Mommy Had the Flu

I'm the main photographer in our home.  I woke up on Christmas morning with a headache and fever - so the pictures are minimal this year.  The main present for the kids this year was a Wii and Russ managed to capture their first moments.

I think he's excited!

Ya know - it's pretty sad when you have to take pictures of yourself on Christmas morning!  This will be one for the memory books - "The Christmas Mommy had the flu"
Seriously - these are the only 4 photos taken on Christmas morning.  I'm told they had a wonderful time!

Pathway Christmas Party

Getting together for a Christmas Party with our old church family from Pathway has become a tradition.  We couldn't miss out this year either.  Last Tuesday night we all got together and this year, with the help of Sarah, our kids put acted out the Christmas story.

Jarod was the narrator

Anne play Mary and Leif played Joseph

I just thought this was a sweet pic.

Maddie was our Angel
We had wise men - but they are 2 and they didn't like the hats.  They didn't cooperate for photos.  maybe next year.

This is my Chloe with her Daddy.  She wasn't in the play - but she sure was adorable as always!

Now to shift gears again - I thought I would share my snow photos from Illinois.  Not much - just a dusting.  But it was enough for me.

My Aunt and Uncle live on a farm in the middle of Illinois.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Well - I've been down with the stomach flu for the last 4 days.  I guess I caught whatever Russ and Jarod had while I was in Illinois.  It hit me hard and strong, eased off for a few hours making me think I was doing better, and then hit me with a 2nd round for two more days!  I'm home from church today and finally feeling strong enough to sit at the computer so I thought I would catch up on my blogs.  Let's start with the Disney trip!

We waited until we were in our room to let the kids know what we were doing that night!  They were quite excited!  Not sure what is up with the peace signs - but whatever!

The first thing we did was buy Anne a Santa Minnie Hat.  Jarod has had his for years and she wanted one to match.  You can't see the mickey ears attached because it's dark - but trust me - they are there.

They were having a Dance Party sponsored by the "Ladies Tremane" from Cinderella.  We took Anne over to dance with them but she wouldn't do it.  Usually she jumps right into this kind of stuff so I asked her why and she said, "I don't want to dance with them.  I don't like them - they are mean!"  Ha!!!!  They couldn't fool her!

We stopped in for some Hot Chocolate and Cookies and found this perfect Florida Photo Op!

We watched several live Christmas shows - quite fun!

Of course, this was my favorite!  200,000 lights on Cinderella's Castle!  OOOOHHHHH!

More Christmas Shows - I thought the Snow Man was way cute!

Disney does everything Top Notch!

We visited Downtown Disney for some shopping.  These Mickey Heads were kicking like the Rockettes!

We can't leave out our visit with Santa.

We went to the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights at Hollywood Studios.  Over 5 MILLION lights synchronized to Christmas music!  AWESOME!

We visited EPCOT and bought fresh Gingerbread Cookies from a lady inside of this REAL Gingerbread house!  It's smelled so yummy!

Looks like a great Christmas Card!  What do you think?

We had a wonderful weekend and are excited to go back.  We return in January to celebrate Anne's 5th birthday!  We have a HUGE surprise planned for her - can't wait!!!!!

Thanks for Your Prayers

Nicki & Aunt Melva

First of all, I want to thank everyone who prayed for me and my extended family last week.  My cousin's sudden and tragic death was a shock to all of us.  She was driving to her mother's house when she came to an icy patch on the road.  Her car spun out of control through the median and in the path of oncoming traffic.  She was killed instantly.  Nicki was 31 and still had her entire life ahead of her.  The wonderful thing is that I know she is with our Lord.  What hope this gives us!

We had only been home from Disney 2 hours when I received the phone call.  I looked up the cost of flights and it was much more than we could handle right now - especially right here at Christmas.  So - I just kept praying - asking the Lord to show me what to do.  I went to bed with my mind spinning and finally fell asleep.  On Sunday morning Russ and I debated on whether or not I should go to church - I was looking kind of rough.  But I decided to go - and just not stay all day like usual.  To come home after morning services and have the freedom to be on the phone and do what I needed to do.
A lady in my church came up to me after services and said, "If you had the money for a plane ride - would you go?"  I was floored.  The rest of my family (Marcia) - were still deciding if they were going to drive it and I would just go with them.  I told her the tickets were expensive and she said - "Book it this afternoon - I'll bring you the money tonight."  I knew immediately that I was supposed to go.  I had no excuse!  After a lot of phone calls and chatting with family (you know how that goes) - we found a flight and decided that I would fly with my other cousin - she would come over from Tallahassee.  Russell brought home an envelope with enough money to cover my ticket and pay for checked bags, etc.  She had privately collected it from a few good Samaritans at church. God is so good.
Now - here's where it gets interesting.  My uncle called me that same night and asked me if I would do the eulogy at the funeral service.  At first I kind of froze and told them I would call them back.  I was worried that I would not do it justice as I have not been around Nicki enough because we live so far apart.  But, I called them back and told them yes and then just began praying.  I soon learned that it would be a private graveside service for immediate family only and I would be the only one speaking.  Now I knew why everything was falling together so nicely.  I was supposed to go.  At this point, I sent out a private email to my prayer warrior friends and everyone began to pray for me.

I left out of here last Wednesday morning, with only about 3 hours of sleep, in order to be there in time for the Visitation.  Over 700 people came through that visitation line that night.  We wondered if it would ever end.  People stood outside in the cold for almost an hour before coming inside to the long line that wound through the Funeral Home.  The love and support that was shown to my Aunt was amazing.

Later that night, my Aunt Melva and I sat down and I began working on the eulogy.  I prayerfully gathered information that she wanted me to talk about and put it together with things I know the Lord clearly gave me as well.  I typed it all up and we stayed up late chatting.  It was a very special time that I will be forever thankful for.

I got about 3 hours of sleep that night.  I woke up early in order to get myself ready and not feel rushed.  I called Russ and read the eulogy to him and had a hard time.  I kept crying.  I told him, "I can't cry like this - you have to pray that I don't cry."  It was an hour drive to the cemetery and I kept waiting for there to be this nasty pit in my stomach but it never came.  When we got there - there were obviously more people that I anticipated but this didn't bother me either, surprisingly.  Once everyone gathered, I began to hear crying - that is always a trigger for me to cry to - but the Lord sustained me in such a way that I cannot explain.  I got up there and did what I had to do.  I could feel the prayers of everyone and I knew the Lord was holding me up in that moment.  My voice cracked during the final prayer but I continued to hold it together.  After I said Amen, I turned, walked outside of the tent and fell apart.  I cried for a few reasons.  1) The loss of my cousin 2) The pain and heartache of my Aunt, and 3) the overflowing thankfulness in my heart that the Lord had enabled me to do what I was supposed to do.  People kept coming up to me afterward and saying, "I just don't know how you did that" and I made sure they knew it was the Lord.  I certainly could not have done that in my own strength.  There was none there.

God is just so good.  I am so thankful to have been chosen for such a great task.  Copies of the eulogy were made so that family members received them.  The gospel was shared and Nicki's life was honored.  Please continue to pray for my family.  Especially my Aunt Melva.  Life will never be the same for her and I am continually praying that she will learn to lean on the Lord in a life changing way.  That the Lord will surround and comfort her in ways she has never experienced before and that she will be able to use this tragic situation to help others and glorify God.
Thanks again for all your prayers and your wonderful notes of encouragement.  My email was flooded and I was overwhelmed by your love and support.

Tragedy

I would love to be able to tell you about our trip to Disney.  It was awesome!  But - it just doesn't seem appropriate today.  I received a phone call last night after we arrived home from Orlando that my cousin, Nicki, was killed in a car accident while driving to her mothers.  She was only 31.  The entire family is devastated.  Please pray.  I am currently making arrangements to go to Illinois for the funeral.  This is my mom's side of the family.  Melva, Nicki's mom, was a huge help to me while I was caring for mom.  Nicki is her only child. Somehow, the rest of my Christmas preparations this week just don't seem very important.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

As you know - We LOVE Disney!  One of our favorite Christmas Traditions is to spend a few days in that magical place.  We missed out last year because we were not able to renew our passes.  We enjoy all the decorations, the lights and especially the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT.  Every year they have a 50 piece orchestra with a large choir and someone reads the Christmas story from Luke 2.  This year Andy Garcia will be reading while we are there. How cool is that?

We also enjoy the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights at Hollywood Studios! Literally MILLIONS of lights set to holiday music!  OOOOHHHH!  I can't wait!!!

Well - we are taking off tomorrow and boy are we excited!  What the kids don't know is that this year we are going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.  They always ask to go, but we have never done it before.  It's an additional cost to our passes and we have always just been thankful for them!

It's a special Christmas Party from 7 - midnight complete with carolers, hot chocolate and cookies, a special Christmas Parade, fireworks and of course snow on Main Street!  I simply cannot wait!  And let's not forget Cinderella's Castle made over in 200,000 lights!

Can you stand it?  I can't!  The kids are going to be SOOOOO thrilled.  Well - I am too!  Until next time with more photos!!!!!

Oh Christmas Tree!

We went Christmas Tree hunting last night.  It was actually cold and rainy here in Florida and it was so nice.  There are so many times that we go get our tree in shorts.  The cold weather was a wonderful blessing.  Russell will tell you that I am the most indecisive person he knows.  It takes me forever to make decisions like a simple Christmas Tree because I want the perfect one.  Can you believe we found it in the first 5 minutes!  Of course, I had to look around to make sure - but we went back to the original one.

The search for the perfect Christmas Tree.

We found it!!!!
